We recently interviewed our hairstylist Nyasia so you can get to know her better. Formerly our receptionist, Nyasia is our newest hairstylist but is certainly not lacking any talent. She is passionate about color and excels in styled blow dries. Her favorite part about working at Jessica’s Color Room is the team environment.
1. How did you get started in the hairstyling industry?
I went to Wilcox Technical High School, where I chose the hairdressing training. After I graduated from high school, I took a gap year and worked in retail. I wanted a change, so I decided to go back into the field.
2. What made you choose hairdressing as a career?
I always had a passion for doing hair when I was younger, and that passion just grew as I got older.
3. What are you known for at the salon?
I am known for braids and updos, but I also love doing sew-ins (Weft hair extensions) and Balayage. Balayage is one of my favorites.
4. What’s your proudest professional accomplishment?
My proudest professional moment was when I signed up for the salon's apprentice training program. I started at the salon as a receptionist and after three weeks, decided to enter the training program.
5. How do you build relationships with your clients?
I feel like the key to building relationships with clients is educating them on how to care for their hair with products and how to style their hair. This helps to build trust between us and a bond.
6. What is your favorite hair trend right now?
I love bangs and styling them. I love adding sew-ins to hair, which are trendy right now. I also like to style hair with beach waves.
7. What inspires you most about working for Jessica’s Color Room?
I would say the team environment. Everyone who works here inspires me. Their work ethic and time management skills inspire me to do the best I can every day.
8. What do you like to do in your free time?
I love going to the gym and shopping. I also love to do a self-care routine, which I feel is the best therapy for me.
